A Month on a Horse Farm | Day 8 [4 January 2013 @ 8:54 pm]
So I have been slacking on my "daily" journal thing. I have been just too damn tired and I have been finishing up later and later. The last couple days have been fairly normal. Though I can honestly say today and yesterday have been the days from hell.

Yesterday was COLD!! Like BEYOND COLD! When we went out in the morning it was literally 4 degrees outside and it only got up to about 20 degrees during the day. It was terrible!! Not to mention that my muscles finally started to reach complete fatigue yesterday. There is just no strength left! On top of that the automatic waters froze up so we spent the whole afternoon trying to get the temperature up in the barn. It was not fun! But in the end we got it unfroze. On a good note Michele and I went to go see Les Mis after we were done last night! It was AWESOME!

Today, at least was warmer, but my muscles were so tired that I could barely even push through the day!. It took ALL my willpower and strength to get through.

The good news is I have off tomorrow! YAYAYAY! I need it so bad! I am so sore and so tired I can't even describe it to you! So much for day four being the hardest day.

A Month on a Horse Farm | Day 5 [1 January 2013 @ 8:01 pm]
It was a rather quiet day around the barn today so I'm not really sure what to tell everyone about. There were only four people in and out today including myself. I fed the horses this morning, making sure to give Indy his medication, and I checked on Bobby's paw. He seems to be taking good care of it. I rode again today and I actually Mr. Leafers actually moving as we cantered around the ring a couple times. Apparently the canter is what I really need to do to work on my leg strength. I really felt it then.

One exciting aspect of the day is my argument about proper lead line behavior with I.O. I'm not really sure who won the argument though. The best part of the day: We were done before sunset!

Anyway that's about it for a rather uneventful day! See You all Tomorrow!

A Month on a Horse Farm | Day 4 [31 December 2012 @ 7:12 pm]
So I was told on Day one that Day 4 would be the hardest, that it would be the day that I just hated the world, if that is so I can so handle this month!

Today was a pretty good day overall. At least, my performance-wise. It was the normal everyday schedule of feed, turnout, stalls, ride, bring in, feed and sweep then done. Today's extra stuff included the very fun dragging of hay and grain to the lower paddocks and then bringing in ALL the horses from the Orchard Paddock because their water was frozen. My ride on Mr. Leafers went well today and I even got a little bit of a lesson to correct some of my errors. I think I might try cantering again tomorrow!

The not so great things of my day were a sick horse, an injured cat, and a very naughty pony. That pony is a boarder's horse named Lexie and she is the definition of a brat. She is codepenent with another pony named Jamaica. They hate being apart. So when they were forced to be, cause I couldn't take them both down with me to their paddock, Lexie managed to body slam me trying to get in before I could open the gate. She didn't take well to my standing still lesson. At least she didn't rear though! I really thought she was going to. Our sick horse is Indy and he really just seems to have a severe cold. He is on meds now, which is another thing I have to do in the mornings and evenings. And last but on least is our injured kitty. His name is Bobby and he is one of three barn cats. (I have never in my life met barn cats as friendly as these!) I noticed a cut on Bobby's paw this morning but didn't manage to catch him late this afternoon. It was still bleeding! It seems like he managed to pull out one of his claws, but he will be alright. Pat says he will keep it nice and clean himself. But I'll keep an eye on it anyway.

Outside of that, Its New years Eve and I'll just be happy if I manage to stay awake long enough to answer the texts that I'm sure to get! LOL.

Happy New Year everyone!

A Month on a Horse Farm | Day 3 [30 December 2012 @ 6:59 pm]
SO I know you are all just dying to hear about my third day at the farm. Never fear I am here to tell you all about it!

The day started off fairly typically, you know the whole up at seven feed at seven thirty so on and so forth deal, But I did do some different stuff. For one I watered the indoor ring which is WAY more work than it sounds. That hose is HEAVY! After finishing stalls it became Grooming day. I had to groom several horses to get them ready for a customer to come look at. Not to mention having to go out and catch a bunch of horses. Blue Aly was by far the hardest to catch. She really didn't wanna come inside today.

When I took lunch at noon I watched a batman episode before heading back out. My muscles literally screamed as I finally got out of the comfy chair. Of course Advil is still the best thing ever! That customer finally arrived after lunch and it was a mad dash to show her a bunch of horses. I really hope she buys one! I also got to ride Mr. Leafers again today. I'm finally getting more confident.

So that's about it for my Day 3! I'll tell you all about day 4 tomorrow.

A Month on a Horse Farm | Day 2 [29 December 2012 @ 6:33 pm]
So today was my second day on the farm! It was a long hard day too. Luckily I didn't wake up with as much pain as I was expecting (Advil is still my new best friend though)! I got through the feeding just fine. Though there is apparently a learning curve to figuring out how to throw the hay up in into the holders in the Baby shed. It took a few tries and being covered in hay before I got it.

It wasn't until turn out when I started to run into problems. I took started I.O. and Picture out to the their paddock and I was promptly stepped on my I.O. It was my own fault though. She got all confused as to which way were were going and my foot just happened to be in the way. After that was my fav activity of mucking stalls. I think I am getting better at it though! Next part of the day includes prepping for a snow storm that is hitting us pretty well. We used wheelbarrows to push hay and grain out the to the paddocks and when we ran out of hay I needed to drop the hay down from the hayloft. It was quite a work out!

The best part of the day came courtesy of a little pony named Mercedes. First this little brat tried to bite my chest on the way out to her paddock in the morning and on the way in she bite my arm. I was not pleased with her.

Since it was snowing so hard we wrapped the night up early and were done by 5pm!

A Month on a Horse Farm [28 December 2012 @ 6:09 pm]
So for those of you that don't know, I am spending my winter vacation from school on a horse farm in New York. It is my goal to use this as a way to get into better shape and hopefully I'll get into such an active lifestyle that I'll just continue it when I go back to school.

I have decided that I am going to keep a daily journal of all my actives during the day and weekly account of my weight loss. I don't have a scale at all here so I'll be weighing myself for real at the end of the month when I go back to school however I will be tracking my measurements!

So currently my weight is 230lbs (I hate admitting that!) and my measurements are as follows:
Bust:47"
Proper waist: 45"
Jean waist line: 52"
Hips: 48"

Day #1

So the day starts at 7:30 am when I go out to feed. Feeding really isn't that hard and the barn is quite then anyway (at least it is until the horses realize its breakfast time). After that is done it is time to turn out, which is lots of fun with all the ice everywhere! And then it's the worst part of the day. Mucking out stalls. At first it wasn't too bad. Pick out the poop and fill the wheel barrow. When it's all full you take it out and dump it. But after a while my arms and back were killing me! And I was just so damn tired! But it needed to be done SO I pushed on through.

After lunch it was time to ride for a while. Now I haven't ridden seriously in at least 10 years so it's going to take some time to get to a good place. I rode Mr. Leafers for a about an hour. Mostly walking and trotting and working on some basic skills as a refresher course. By the time I was done with leafers it was feeding time and cleaning tack time. And then I was done for the day! It was a good first day!

Nacked Meme! [20 December 2012 @ 3:34 am]
Clearly I am addicted to Dammie's memes. I am doing another one too:

Pick any of my characters, past or present, and I'll tell you one fact about them that you'd probably never notice unless they were naked.

ICON MEME! [20 December 2012 @ 3:10 am]
I love this one that Dammie did and I feel the need to do it too SO:

Comment with one of my characters, past/present. I'll reply to you with:

5 icons that I feel best represent them
4 icons I don't use often enough
3 icons that best represent my character's feelings towards yours
2 icons that are my favorites
1 icon that doesn't really fit the character, but I can't live without
